Reflections on 2024 as 2025 Begins

Tomorrow you’re opening a brand new book with 365 blank pages. What do you want to put in that book? What are you going to name it?

Maybe you will put in advertising plans for your current book(s)? Maybe an announcement for a new book? Possibly you will actually start writing a new book? Is there excitement in the air as you are eager to start?

What about listing your resolutions? Do you make them? Do you keep them? Have you any unfinished ones from 2024? Are you going to carry them over to 2025? Are you even the type to create resolutions. Some people don’t. They live for the moment. I’m one of those people. I keep my focus on each day as it arrives and I try not to worry about what could happen tomorrow. I say “try” because, there are times when I anticipate a special day or event. Birthdays are a good example. I have three children and six grandchildren to celebrate birthdays. Plus friends, too.

What if you labeled your 2025 book, Bucket List? Do you have a vacation you’ve been saving for and this is the year you are going to go? Is it a Bucket List item? If you could go anywhere, where would you go? For me, I would go to Greece. That’s always been on my Bucket List. With the world getting in more and more turmoil, I’m not sure when it won’t be safe to go anymore.

Do you plan on going back to school and get a degree? That’s a great Bucket List item. I did that after I had my children. I went back to school and got my degree in Computer Science and used it to develop a successful Technical Writing career. When I retired from that career, I started my Fiction Writing career. Very lucrative. The stories poured out of me. I had so many characters talking to me, it was sometimes hard to keep up with getting their stories written.

You could label your new 2025 book, New Book Ideas. I have a three-ring binder with short notes, newspaper clippings, pictures, synopses, and you name it. Anything that will help me trigger an idea for a new book or short story.

I think I’ll name my new 2025 book: My Life Journal, 2025. And, I will fill it with ideas, actions, thoughts, and events that occur as the year progresses. It will be my journal. I have kept a journal since I was a kid. I have boxes of them. They’re my memoirs of years past. And, each day will get its individual focus.

Happy New Year’s Eve.
